NSEB: National Standard Examination in Biology

About-

NSEB is organized by the National Association of Biology Teachers with IAPT and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. This is the first stage of the biology Olympiad in India.

Syllabus-

Only basic guidelines of the course have been mentioned and no detailed syllabus for NSEB is given. Some of the important topics for NSEB are as follows-

  • Biodiversity and its conservation and Environmental Issues
  • Ecosystem
  • Organisms and Populations
  • Principles of Inheritance and Variation
  • Reproduction in Organisms
  • Cell division: Mitosis and Meiosis
  • Protein synthesis and Transportation
  • Biotechnology
  • Microbiology
  • Cell Biology: Structure and function of cells
  • Anatomy of plants and animal
  • Plant physiology and Animal physiology




Preparation Tips-

Read biology books by different authors-

You need to have a very good grip over your theoretical knowledge, raw memorization will not get you anywhere.

Organize your study material-

Keep on making short notes of all the important topics. They will help you in the final revision.

Plan your study schedule-

As the IBO syllabus is vast, you need to plan your schedule in a way so you do not miss anything citing to the lack of time. Manage your time effectively.

Develop practical skills-

You cannot do practicals of your own even though you have sufficient theoretical knowledge. Try to get an internship at a local university or a lab.

Mock tests-

Mock tests will help you gauge your performance and to help you know your strong and weak areas.
